Why Keshet Wednesday #1 – A Leader in Inclusive Camping

Three camp photos through the years and yellow, pink and blue text overlay that says "Why Keshet Wednesday"

For the next eight Wednesdays, we are going to give you a glimpse into the ways that Keshet’s camp programs are unique and special with a new series we are calling Why Keshet Wednesday. There is no better way to start off this summer series than with a little blast from the past…

Keshet has been a leader in inclusive camping since its first summer at JCC day camp in 1989. At the time, we only had a few campers who were looking to have a Jewish summer camp experience alongside their peers. As the years went on, the desire and need for these programs continued to grow and so did the support from our families and partners.

Fast forward to 2023 where Keshet is now at 12 different camps supporting campers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities! We have 156 campers attending with Keshet, including 81 day campers and 75 overnight campers. With the support of Keshet staff, campers enjoy camp in ways that feel right for them. Campers with and without disabilities being part of one camp community together is just part of the norm. We are looking forward to seeing all the ways that Keshet’s campers learn, play and grow all while making incredible friendships along the way this summer.
