Keshet Adults Prepare for Election

Leading up the election, Keshet’s Adult Programs, GADOL and MY Life, have been focused on how to VOICE THEIR CHOICE.

GADOL partnered with Leanne Mull (Blue Tower Solutions) and self-advocates, Chuy Campuzano and Becca Burrow to lead a discussion about the upcoming election. They discussed ways to vote, why to vote and looked at the Legislative Scorecard that evaluates legislators based on their support of bills affecting people with developmental disabilities.

GADOL Online offered News & Views and the Morning Hello programs that addressed topics related to voting and the upcoming election. Discussions have included everything from who can vote, the empowerment of having the right and choice to vote, different ways to vote and they spent time looking through an actual ballot.

These efforts reflect how Keshet is making the most of current events and advocacy, and we are not alone in doing this. Americans with disabilities are politically active, engaged and enthusiastic about voting this year. A recent study done by Easterseals and Pathfinder Opinion Research found over 30 million people with disabilities will vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Every MY Life resident has voted, including one resident who voted for the first time. After participating the Keshet’s voter education curriculum, one of these residents, Jonah, shared, “voting is important and everyone can vote for whoever they want.”
