The Sweetest Hanukkah Sugar Cookies

Keshet staff member Alita Birn shares her favorite Hanukkah sugar cookie recipe! Grab these ingredients, some Hanukkah-shaped cookie cutters and get ready for a warm and sweet holiday. Wishing you and your loved ones a Hanukkah filled with warmth and light.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk (can use soy or almond milk)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Sugar or sprinkles for topping


Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. Beat the margarine on medium speed until softened. Add the sugar and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, milk and vanilla extract. Beat well to combine.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture, beating until fully combined.
  5. Cover the dough and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  7. Grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
  8. Roll out the dough to ¼” thickness and cut with Chanukah-shaped cookie cutters.
  9. Sprinkle with sugar or sprinkles of your choice. Dip the cutters in flour between cookies to prevent sticking.
  10. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until light brown.
