New Years Story & Message

Jen with three Keshet friends

by Jen Phillips, Keshet CEO & President

As I reflect on 2025, one word keeps coming to mind: full. Full of moments that mattered, full of connection and joy and full of purpose. It was a year shaped by meaningful experiences both big and small, made possible by the care, generosity and belief of our larger community. I am so grateful for all that we shared together and your on-going commitment to Keshet and our families.

Back in August, I experienced a moment where my heart felt so full. It was during the final performance of Center Stage, our first-ever theater camp for teens in partnership with Special Gifts Theater and hosted at Congregation Beth Shalom. As the campers sang, danced and acted, I was blown away by one camper who is typically shy and often chooses not to speak. There he was, on stage, reciting words that he wrote himself. To someone who doesn’t know him, it may have seemed like a regular part of the program. For him, it reflected hours of effort, staff encouragement and a new level of self-confidence. As I looked out at an audience filled with proud families and friends, I was reminded that this is what Keshet does best. With unmatched dedication, we create spaces where people of all abilities are supported to participate, grow and surprise themselves in ways that truly matter.

In 2026, inspired by moments like this one, we are continuing to grow Keshet’s programs, offer unique opportunities and expand partnerships to reach more people and deepen our impact:

Moving into our permanent home: By this time next year, Keshet will have moved to the Kersten Campus and into The Justin Coe Center! When finished, our new home will be more than a building; it will be a vibrant hub where people with disabilities and their families can learn, play, work and belong together, alongside the community. Our design plans allow for people to move freely and confidently, bringing nearly all of Keshet’s programs under one roof for the first time and creating an environment where inclusion comes naturally.

We have raised $17,732,825 of our $20M goal for the One Community Campaign. When the weather gets warmer, there will be many opportunities for all of you to get involved as we prepare for Keshet’s next era.

Traveling to Israel: In April, adults with disabilities will journey to Israel with Keshet on a trip designed especially for them. For many, this will be a lifelong dream come true to see the sites, explore history and experience Israeli culture. You can see the itinerary and learn more about upcoming information sessions here

Launching Bright Apron Academy: In the late spring, we’ll be serving up success with Keshet’s new, professional training program in food service and hospitality. With a curriculum created by Hugs Café Inc. in partnership with the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation, students will learn the hard and soft skills needed to pursue jobs in restaurants or other settings while also gaining kitchen and cooking skills to use in their everyday lives. Planning for this new program is supported in part through a generous grant from JUF.

Welcoming new residents: The need for supported housing in our area continues to grow, and after a five-year pause, Keshet is ready to move forward. This year, we are beginning the process to open another home, offering more adults the opportunity to live with support, connection and a true sense of home.

This is just the beginning of everything in the works for 2026, and I want you to be part of it. Mark your calendars for Keshet’s Rainbow Banquet on Sunday, March 8, where will we celebrate our community and impact.

Wishing you a 2026 filled with happiness, good health and belonging.
